A kid’s room is the most important space that you have to design in great care. Transition from being toddler to a child of nursery and then a school age requires new renovations for their bedroom in each period. A children’s room needs to have plenty of play space, plus healthy and safe sleeping and reading zones.
When you all think of all technical aspects, you have to be careful in pedagogic and emotional aspects of your kid’s growth. If you have a kid in school age, it is good to design a room to improve his imagination along with the health and safety rules.
The star wars themed bedroom of a kid in Glasgow illustrates how well develops a children’s imagination with the space.
Know what inspires your kid?
First, before you start to buy any furniture for your kid’s room, let’s answer your first big question: what inspires your kid and what his or her interests?
It is not what you like or want to see but the more of your children’s abilities and interests. Think how you improve by the concept you bring in their room. For instance, one of my friend built a ship bed for his son who liked sea and ships.
In our client’s room, we created a star wars theme for the whole bedroom. However, we managed it in a subtle way that we offered other activity corners such as reading, studying and playing. It was interesting to discover that our client’s kid was more keen on reading than play areas. So we offered an armchair in front of a book shelf on the wall for reading his books.
Start with your design concept
If you decide the design concept for your kid’s bedroom, it is time to start the technical parts of the design.
Sketch your furniture layout
You don’t need too much technical skills to prepare your furniture layout. The old-fashioned paper and pencil works as well. You need to check how big your room is. This is what you must determine first before you place bed, wardrobe and other furniture. Knowing the dimensions of the room will dictate how many and how big items you can place in the room.
Get inspirations from Pinterest
You can’t design the your room without getting inspirations, first. If you don’t know where to start, it is good to have a look at Pinterest. It’s an amazing platform and you can find amazing photos there. It is always to look at google images and instagram for deep searches.
Prepare your mood boards
Then it is the time to prepare your mood boards with all the images and photos that you have discovered in Pinterest or any image platforms . If you have never designed a mood board before, you may be a little nervous about doing this. It’s easier than you think, though.
If you are keen in technology, you can use softwares like Photoshop or applications like Affinity Photo. Though the former is a little expensive, the latter is very affordable, if you want to invest some money on these programmes.
There is Canva and similar similar portals that you can create your mood board without any charge. These applications may cover different properties depending on the type, but most of them have basic design properties.
Search your furniture from suppliers
